This exhibition gathers together work by Vanessa Beecroft, Yael Davids, Angus Fairhurst, Alicia Framis, Kirsten Geisler, Jeroen Kooijmans, Ewoud de Kroon, Richard Korteland, Eelco van der Lingen, Arno Neeleman, Elske Neus and Arianne Olthaar & Marjolijn van der Meij – all artists with a regional, national or international reputation.
The desire of artists to capture the beauty of the human subject presents a constant risk of alienating the viewer. The very attempt to pinpoint the source of our physical beauty and humanity creates a sense of detachment and alienation from the things that are most familiar to us: a human being’s skin, mouth, skull, blood and muscles. By contrast, the animal kingdom begins to seems more wondrous. Or does every animal conceal a human spirit?
