Urs Pfannenmüller
Floating Buckets
22/03/2003 t/m 08/06/2003
This spring, the GEM has invited Hague artist Urs Pfannenmüller to create a large-scale installation in the lake between the GEM and the Gemeentemuseum.
Pfannenmüller will float dozens of brightly coloured buckets on the surface of the lake. The buckets will contain a wide variety of living plants: small trees, aquatic plants, wetland grasses and bushes. Over the exhibition period, the plants will sprout and grow, constantly changing the appearance of the installation. The contrast between nature and artifice, between chaos and order, is a recurrent theme in the work of Pfannenmüller, who has been based in the Netherlands since 1972. He began his artistic career as a painter, but since 1990 has turned increasingly to creating installations for specific settings.
